The plan is each Friday to update you all with what I deem to be ‘5 of the Best.’
Depending on the goings-on of the week this could be anything from recipes, to latest news and controversies.
This week I thought I’d start off with 5 of the Best Nutrition headlines from the week (with a few being slightly older than the week… I’ve had this in the pipeline for a while now)!
1) “Why we can’t help finishing off the whole can of pringles,” Featured in the Sydney Morning Herald, the concept of hedonic hunger was introduced – cue the collective sigh of relief from the many of us with limited self-control.
2) “Leading health groups call on Coca-Cola to scrap ad campaign,” Following the ‘efforts’ of the company to address the obesity epidemic (otherwise known as a clever marketing campaign), 12 peak health bodies including Nutrition Australia have challenged Coke to take meaningful action.
3)” CHOICE slams Froyo frozen yoghurt outlandish claims.” CHOICE have confirmed what we’d all been suspecting for some time now – many popular frozen yoghurt bars are pulling the wool over our eyes with the overzealous claims of health benefits. Further to this though, the absense of nutrition information at hand highlights an ever larger issue.
4) “Caffeine cropping up where it is least expected.” Our highly caffeinated food supply has been called into question, with the Australian Government reviewing the long term health effects of caffeine consumption.
5) “Germs, Genes and Girth,” A connection has been made between the level of gut bacteria and obesity, but is it a case of the chicken and the egg?
